The Big Bash League (BBL) has become one of global cricket's most fascinating T20 events. Since its start in 2011-12, the Australian domestic league has become a global spectacle. It is well-known for its crowded stadiums, spectacular hits, and some of the finest short-format cricket ever seen.

For the first time in 2024/25, the Hobart Hurricanes became the champions of the BBL. Perth Scorchers remain the most successful team with five titles, followed by Sydney Sixers with three and Brisbane Heat with two.

The inaugural BBL season was won by Sydney Sixers who defeated Perth Scorchers in the final. Moises Henriques and Steve O'Keefe shared a 110-run opening stand. Mitchell Marsh scored an unbeaten 77 for Scorchers (156 total), but the Sixers chased it down with Steven Smith hitting the winning runs.

2012–13: Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat won the toss and batted first, posting 167 runs. Perth Scorchers top order failed in the powerplay. Adam Voges tried to rescue the innings but it was too late. Perth Scorchers scored only 133 and Brisbane Heat won by 34 runs.

Perth Scorchers finally claimed their first BBL title after two final losses. Shaun Marsh led the team to a fighting total of 191 runs. Hobart Hurricanes fell for 152 in the chase and the Scorchers won by 39 runs.

Perth Scorchers won their second consecutive BBL title. Under Moises Henriques, Sixers amassed 147/5 with Henriques scoring 77. Adam Voges' Scorchers chased down the goal in the last over, reaching 148/6 for a four-wicket victory.

2015–16: Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder reached the final for the first time. Kevin Pietersen scored 74 for Melbourne Stars (176 total). Michael Hussey led Thunder to 181/7, chasing down the target with three balls to spare. Usman Khawaja hit crucial 70 off 40 balls.

Perth Scorchers won their third BBL title. Sydney Sixers managed only 141 with Jhye Richardson picking 3 wickets. Michael Klinger scored an unbeaten 71 as Scorchers won by 9 wickets — becoming the first team to win 3 BBL titles.

Adelaide Strikers posted a commanding 202/2 under Travis Head. Jake Weatherald scored an incredible 115 from 70 balls. Hobart Hurricanes fell 25 runs short at 177/5. Adelaide Strikers won their first BBL championship.

Melbourne Renegades defeated Melbourne Stars in the first Melbourne derby final. Under Aaron Finch, Renegades scored 145/5. The Stars, led by Moises Henriques, managed just 132/7 — losing by 13 runs. Renegades won their first-ever BBL championship.

Rain shortened the match to 12 overs each. Sixers amassed 116/5 with Josh Philippe scoring 52 off 29 balls. The Stars managed just 97/6. Sydney Sixers won by 19 runs to claim their second BBL championship.

Sydney Sixers amassed a solid 188/6 with James Vince scoring an incredible 95 runs off 60 balls. Scorchers were restricted to 161/9. Sixers won by 27 runs and became the second team to win back-to-back BBL titles.

Scorchers posted 171 with Laurie Evans scoring an unbeaten 76 and Ashton Turner adding 54. Sydney Sixers were bowled out for just 92 runs. Andrew Tye picked 3 wickets for 15 in 3 overs. Scorchers won by 79 runs for their fourth title.
