Women's Big Bash League — From 2015 To 2025
Cricket Australia's Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) is one of the biggest carnivals in the game. The competition was founded in 2015 with the goal of providing female cricket players an equal opportunity to display their skills. Together with local players, the WBBL brings together the best international players from across the world.
In the first edition, the Sydney Thunder won the championship. The Sydney Sixers dominated early, winning back-to-back titles in 2016–17 and 2017–18. Brisbane Heat also won consecutive championships in 2018–19 and 2019–20. The Adelaide Strikers became the latest to defend their title in 2023–24.

2015–16: Sydney Thunder Women
ChampionThe first WBBL final was between Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers. Sixers posted only 115. Thunder chased it down in 3 wickets with 3 balls to spare. Erin Osborne picked 3 wickets. Sydney Thunder became the inaugural WBBL champions.
2016–17: Sydney Sixers Women
ChampionAfter losing the first final, Sydney Sixers Women faced Perth Scorchers Women. Alyssa Healy scored 40, helping Sixers to 124. Sarah Aley picked 4 wickets as Scorchers fell for 117. Sixers won by 7 runs for their first WBBL title.
2017–18: Sydney Sixers Women
ChampionA rematch final between Sixers and Scorchers. Perth were bowled out for 99. Ashleigh Gardner led the Sixers to a 9-wicket victory. Sixers became the first team to defend the WBBL title.
2018–19: Brisbane Heat Women
ChampionSydney Sixers posted 131. Beth Mooney scored a match-winning 65 runs and guided Brisbane Heat to chase the target with four balls left. Brisbane Heat won the WBBL title for the first time.
2019–20: Brisbane Heat Women
ChampionAdelaide Strikers posted 161 with Amanda-Jade Wellington scoring 55. Beth Mooney led the Heat chase with 56 runs. Brisbane Heat became the second WBBL team to win back-to-back titles.
2020–21: Sydney Thunder Women
ChampionA low-scoring final where Melbourne Stars Women scored only 86. Thunder chased it down in 13.4 overs. This was Thunder's second WBBL title — becoming the third team to win 2 WBBL trophies.
2021–22: Perth Scorchers Women
ChampionPerth Scorchers Women finally won after 3 failed final attempts. They posted 146 batting first. Adelaide Strikers Women fell for 134, losing by 12 runs.
2022–23: Adelaide Strikers Women
ChampionAdelaide Strikers put 147 with Deandra Dottin scoring an unbeaten 52. Sydney Sixers fell 10 runs short. Amanda-Jade Wellington took the last wicket to complete Strikers' first WBBL championship.
2023–24: Adelaide Strikers Women
ChampionStrikers posted 125 against Brisbane Heat. A nail-biting finish saw Heat lose wickets at crucial intervals. Adelaide Strikers became the third team in WBBL to retain the title.
2024–25: Melbourne Renegades Women
ChampionHayley Matthews played a crucial role scoring 69 off 61 balls and taking 2 wickets for 24 runs. In a rain-affected final cut to 12 overs, Renegades defended the DLS target by 7 runs for their first WBBL title.
2025–26: Hobart Hurricanes Women
ChampionHobart Hurricanes Women won their first WBBL title at Bellerive Oval. After Perth Scorchers posted 137/5, Lizelle Lee scored an unbeaten 77 off 44 balls, steering Hurricanes to 141/2 in 15 overs — winning by 8 wickets.
