Andrew Flintoff Named Head Coach of Sydney Thunder in BBL
Sydney Thunder have officially confirmed Andrew Flintoff as their new head coach for the Big Bash League 2026โ27 season, marking a high-profile appointment for the franchise. Flintoff, the former England all-rounder and Ashes hero, brings vast experience in T20 cricket from both playing and media roles.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to take on this role with Sydney Thunder. Australia holds a special place in my heart and I'm looking forward to working with the talented group of players here," Flintoff said at the press conference.
The Thunder have been one of the more exciting teams in BBL history, having reached two finals. With David Warner leading the squad as captain, the combination of an experienced head coach and world-class captain is expected to push the Thunder toward BBL glory.
Flintoff worked extensively in cricket broadcasting and mentorship programs before transitioning to full-time coaching. He played in the earlier BBL seasons as an overseas player and understands the format's demands intimately.
Cricket Australia's BBL head James Allsopp praised the appointment: "Andrew brings energy, passion, and a winner's mentality. He understands what it takes to win in T20 and will inspire the players to reach new heights."
